Treatment for Thrush - Drug Free

By Petra Spink

Thrush, yeast infection or candidiasis - call it what you like it's the same thing and is a problem for millions of women every year. When a totally natural fungus which is present in the body excessively grows it turns to thrush (this is most commonly associated with women). Pain, irritation, itchyness and a cottage cheese like discharge is not uncommon to sufferers of thrush.

Candida Albicans is one of the many organisms living in the human body. These organisms live in about 80 percent of the human population. Thrush can be present in different parts of the human body including the colon, vagina, stomach, throat, mouth and rectum. Candida Albicans does not pose any health problems under normal conditions but an overgrowth of the said bacteria can cause the condition called thrush or candidiasis.

Thrush can be found in the male genital area as well as females. The transmission of this infection, as well as what sex it comes from is not exclusive to women. Men also can be the origin of thrush and pass it on to a sexual partner. The thinking that it is only women who spread thrush is not true.

In rare examples, thrush can develop into a grave medical problem. Although the chances of this are relatively small it is always best to treat this infection as swiftly as you can. You can seek medical advice and there is also excellent natural remedies available.

The worst thing you can do is leave a thrush infection untreated. By ignoring the fact that you have a yeast infection you increase the risk of making the problem even worse. It can be treated swiftly thus preventing the increase of symptoms to other parts of your body. Do not have sex as thrush is highly contagious (plus intercourse itself painful when suffering from thrush).

Most women who suffer from thrush will visit their doctor who will prescribe medication such as creams or pessaries which must be inserted high into the vagina. You can suffer ill effects from these medications such as severe diarrhoea, dizziness and sickness. Birth contol is also effected by these medications as condom and diaphragm rubber can be damaged.

Some women take steps to prevent thrush occurring in the first place e.g cutting back on sugar. It must be remembered however that a level of yeast in the body is required for a healthy, thrush free lifestyle. If you already have thrush a simple, side effect free remedy is more your requirement.

Thrush can be prevented. It is necessary to note that a normal amount of yeast is necessary for good vaginal health. That is why it is not advisable to rely too much on preventing the formation of yeast. It is certainly too late if you already have the infection and are looking for a cure.
