A Crucial Drug Addiction Sign and Alcoholism Symptom

By Carl-Peter

Knowing what the alcoholism symptoms and drug addiction signs are - is crucial if you want to know whether you or someone you care about suffers from alcoholism or drug addiction.

There are whole host of signs and symptoms of alcoholism and drug addiction, but I'm not going to list them here (feel free to visit my website for that). I rather want to give you a crucial one - that if you pick up early can make all the difference.

Unlike what many people think - drug addiction or alcoholism isn't simply a function of how often you use or how much you drink.

Of course, there are times when it is going to be obvious that you or someone you love is an alcoholic or drug addict. The drug addict will be a genuine junkie who does nothing but shoot up all day and their life is simply about the next hit.

The alcoholic will also just about - or already have - lost everything. Relationships will have broken down, holding a job down has become almost impossible - and it is now an open fact that this person is an alcoholic.

Many drug addicts and alcoholics aren't yet that advanced with their addiction, however. So the secret is to see the signs and symptoms of alcoholism and drug addiction, before it gets that advanced.

So the telling symptom of addiction is when your using drugs or drinking begins to have an impact on your life and you struggle to cope with things in general - and often things you generally managed fine with before.

You start to become more consumed by the next drink or opportunity to use and this has a knock-on effect on other areas of your life - self esteem, work, relationships. So using or drinking starts to provide you with a sense of emotional comfort - that feels like it helps you cope.

The problem is, that it is usually difficult to pick up on this alcoholism or drug addiction symptom, because it happens quickly and if often subtle. Denial usually prevents you seeing what is happening in your own case unless you are able to be really honest with yourself - or if it's a person you care about, look out for changes in attitude, behaviour or mood.

There are a whole lot of drug addiction signs and alcoholism symptoms, but by recognising this one and getting it early - the chances of recovery are likely to be easier and more successful.
