Leather Motorcycle Jackets are Safe

By Frank Medley

A rider in a leather motorcycle jacket is the archetypical ideal of a motorcycle rider. However, many of these jackets are uncomfortable. Does a jacket exist that is cool looking, comfortable and safe?

As you're preparing to buy your leather motorcycle jacket, you might wonder what features it need to have to keep you safe? It should be a millimeter thick or more, in order to protect you in an accident.

A drawback to leather motorcycle jackets is their lack of protective armor. There are some that do feature it however. You should look for semi rigid armor that doesn't shift when you move, in the back and chest.

You can also find a jacket that has water proofing, though not all companies carry it at this point. A few manufacturers are making waterproof jackets, and you can find the information on their websites.

There is some debate over what size jacket is the best. You have the option of a three quarter or half size length. Half size is more traditional, and while it has less storage space, it's the classic.

A three quarter length jacket is better if you have somewhat of a gut, and a lot of us do. These jackets don't have the classic style, but they do have many more storage pockets and better coverage for longer rides.

You may think that the only real leather motorcycle jackets are black, but you can get a variety of jackets in many different colors. There are also team logo jackets for the big fans out there.

Leather motorcycle jackets are the traditional option for protection when riding, but that doesn't mean that you're options are traditional. There are many different options within your jacket.
