By Adam Peters

This article speaks about the various reasons for the breeding of mould in the bathroom and some steps which would help us in avoiding from the same.

Though cleaned regularly, mould always comes in areas which have high humidity. Shower and bathtub create a moist and warm air which condenses on surfaces that are cold. This is a perfecting breeding area for fungi that turns into spores of mould. Following the below step should help you from preventing the growth of moulds in the bathroom.

Keeping a bathroom open is just not enough to get away from condensation, rather moist air is blown into the remaining parts of the home. A mould doesn?t breed on dry areas so ensure that the bathroom has an extractor fan fitted that pushes the moist air out of your bathroom.

To identify the problem of condensation in the bathroom, a dehumidifier can be rented for few days. The dehumidifier takes the moisture from the air and stores in a reservoir as water. Once the reservoir becomes full, condensation problem might again be there, that needs to be looked into.

In case you have any rugs in the bathroom, that needs to be removed. When these rugs become wet in the bathroom, they increase the humidity level. Check for other floor coverings for your bathroom that otherwise don?t take or absorb water. Potted plants have to be removed. Plants have to be watered and the soil is always moist which a perfect place for the mould to grow and hence all the plants should be out of the bathroom.

Ensure there are no leaks in the bathroom. A tiny leak, left unnoticed can do much damage. Ensure the pipe work to be dry, mostly around the plumbing work or the connections. Make sure all the seals are in place and correct around the bathtub and shower. Mould seen breeding in the seal is an indication of the moisture starting to get behind the seal.

Though ceramic tiles are well-known designs for bathroom, they draw or attract condensation as they are cold to touch. In spite of, using waterproof tiles, the grout that is in between still can retain the moisture and aid in the growth of mould. Drywall ceilings and plasterboard suck the moisture once they get in contact with water that means even a dry surface allows for the growth of the mould. Cladding can be tried in the bathroom that one of the forms of waterproof paneling and its warm hence no formation of condensation. Apart from this, it doesn't use grout for installation, as it uses a groove and tongue system and hence moisture can no longer harbor.
