Can I Still Make Money from Home Without Losing It to Scammers?

By Pavel Becker

This question was puzzling me about two years ago.

Finding the answer to this question has drastically changed my life and I want to offer you a few thoughts of mine.

First, we need to clarify the question because you can either work from home or have a home-based business. Though they may sound like different ways to say the same thing, I assure you that they are two totally different animals.

Working from home means you're still somebody else's employee. You have to do what they tell you, when they tell you, and are limited by how much they are willing to pay you.

Owning a home-based business means you are your own boss and can do what you want, when you want to, and you can potentially earn as much as you want to-you just have to put in the effort. The drawback is the business rest solely on your shoulders. That's a lot of responsibility.

I can't advise you on work from home, but if you are asking about a home based business I might be able to give you some food for thought.

The key to modern business is the Internet. It's become the most powerful tool available to promote goods and services and reach incredible numbers of customers.

And of course Internet marketers-the people who promote those goods and services wouldn't have jobs without the World Wide Web: Internet Marketers.

So, in many cases, "home based business" means a business that delivers products and services using the power of the Internet.

Like "real businesses," each Internet venture must have products to sell, a way to promote them, and a way for customers to purchase them.

Before you start looking into this business though, you must choose what you are most comfortable doing because-on the Internet-the possibilities are limitless.

Compared to traditional "Brick-and-Mortar" businesses, Internet, or home-based businesses have much lower overhead, smaller start-up costs, and almost no necessary equipment-other than a computer, of course. There's not store front to up keep or pay rent on, there are few, if any, employees to pay, and very small amounts of on-hand inventory. All of this combined, makes it easier to get an Internet business up and running, and allows you to see the results a lot sooner.

Doing business over the Internet still frightens many people, especially because it's new and unfamiliar. Most often, you'll hear people talking about the Internet being home to "scammers" and "villains" of all sorts. Most of this talk comes from older folks who may have spent their entire working careers working in dingy offices, or school cafeterias making ten bucks an hour.

But businesses, whether they are "real" or home-based, are only as reputable as the people running them. Are you telling me you've never heard of somebody being ripped off by a used car salesman? How about a lawyer? Those are "real" businesses but you don't generally encounter so much flak when you ask people about them.

The best way to evaluate any business, online or otherwise, is to arm yourself with information. The more you know about something, the easier it becomes to make rational, knowledgeable decisions about it. You wouldn't let yourself be snowed into buying a money tree from a door to door salesman just because he said it would make you a millionaire would you? You'd check into it first and see it would actually give you what it was promised to, right?

Here are a few questions to ask about any Internet business:

- What am I going to be selling?

- Is the product's worth visible to consumers?

- Is there a marketing framework already in place?

- Will anybody be around to help me if I have questions?

- what is the profit margin per unit of product (is it 20 cents per bottle of vitamins or $35000 per space shuttle).

Find those answers and use them to make your decision.

Internet marketing is a great business after all and you would be surprised to know how many people are involved and what kind of money are being made here, but before you get involved, again, do your research.

I can't say that I hunted around until I found the best business, but this one has turned out to be the best for me.

Just for fun, next time somebody gets angry and tells you Internet marketing is a scam, ask them how they know, what companies they've worked with, how much they had invested, and if they even had a marketing plan. Ask them for names, data, and specific instances.

In most cases these people never tried anything other then going to work for the last ten - twenty years, never made more then $40,000 per year and their opinion is not a valid source of information by any means.

If you are actually interested in finding people from this industry, go to You Tube - there is a lot of us over there and we are open to the idea of sharing all the information we have about what we do.

One more time: home based business has changed lives for a lot of people, are you going to be one of them?

The decision is yours!
