The diet is designed to teach the body how to accept the right fats and carbohydrates to lose weight. To do this, the body needs to purge itself of the love of sugar.

this diet is divided into three parts. First part is the most strict. The body is taken back to Ground Zero which means that processed sugars are eliminated from your everyday diet. So say goodbye to bread, fruits, rice, pasta, and sugary snacks. The idea in this first part of the diet is that it takes at least two weeks to break a bad habit. So at the end o two weeks your body will no longer have its sugar cravings.

A dieter that makes it through the first two weeks will find part two easier to live with. At this point the diet sugar is slowly reintroduced. That means that you will slowly be a will to consume bread, rice, pasta, and fruit in this phase. The reason for this is that it teaches your body how to manage sugar simultaneously you learn portion control. You will stay in this phase 2 of the South Beach diet until you reach your weight goal.

Phase Three is the maintenance phase of the diet. Foods are chosen that will keep weight at a stable level and, at the same time, not make the dieter feel deprived. The South Beach diet book contains recipes for each phase of the plan. Foods that can be eaten at each phase are listed at the back of the book. Dieters are encouraged to prepare low carb meals. Preparing your own food provides more fresh vegetables and nutrients than processed fare. Be aware that some of the recipes require pricey cuts of meat and seafood along with the seasonings.

For those dieters who have children at home it's a great idea to add a starch to their meals. That is of course assuming that your children are at their ideal weight if not the South Beach diet is perfectly safe for them as well.

Hundreds of stores nationwide carry namebrand products at how the South Beach logo. In fact the South Beach diet plan also has its own line of snacks and frozen meals. However vegetarians may have a difficult time in the first two weeks of the diet because the diet is limited to meat vegetables and nuts. if you're not a big fan of meat and vegetables the first 14 days might be very hard.

Exercise is not a main component of the South Beach plan. The South Beach diet is about changing eating habits and eliminating cravings. To achieve total health, an exercise regimen is half of the equation.
