The diet is designed to teach the body how to accept the right fats and carbohydrates to lose weight. To do this, the body needs to purge itself of the love of sugar.

The South Beach diet is divided into three stages. The first phase is the most strict part of the diet. We take the body back to Ground Zero. Processed sugars are completely eliminated from the daily that. That means no bread, fruits, rice, pasta, and sugary snacks. The theory at work in the first part of this diet is that it takes you two weeks to make or break a habit. The idea is that after two weeks time your body won't remember its sugar cravings.

The diet is also considered healthier because you provide fresh vegetables and prepare your own food. However some of the recipes call for expensive ingredients.

For those dieters who have children at home it's a great idea to add a starch to their meals. That is of course assuming that your children are at their ideal weight if not the South Beach diet is perfectly safe for them as well.

However vegetarians may have a difficult time in the first two weeks of the diet because the diet is limited to meat vegetables and nuts. if you're not a big fan of meat and vegetables the first 14 days might be very hard.
