Baby Shower Favors

By Charmaine L. Smoot

Baby showers are some of the best parties to host, wouldn't you agree? Next to the wedding, baby showers are the most likely event to reunite with friends you haven't seen in years. Old friends usually travel far and wide to help celebrate this special event, so it pays to return their generosity by throwing them a party filled with favors they won't soon forget!

Since guests bring gifts for the baby and mother-to-be to a baby shower, many hosts express their gratitude by providing baby shower favors. Baby shower favors can be virtually anything and range from the useful and practical to unique and sentimental. Favors can be either handmade or store-bought, and each kind has its advantages.

Store-Bought Favors

Store-bought favors are, let's face it, practical and fast. If you're a host squeezed for time, these are a great way to go. So many choices are available for a range of prices, especially online, that finding the perfect favor for your shower is just a matter of determination. And since buying online means the favors can be delivered to your front door, buying them using your mouse and keyboard is the fastest way to get this task done.

Is your internet connection down, or are you just not the online buyer type? No worries. You can always go to your local party supply store. They're sure to have a great selection of decorations and favors for your baby shower, though you may find that it's not as comprehensive as what you can find online. "Real" stores, however, do have a significant advantage over their online counterparts: you can actually touch and feel the merchandise!

Making Baby Shower Favors by Hand

For the ultimate in creativity and uniqueness, nothing beats handmade baby shower favors. They show off your imagination and stamp the gifts with your personality and thoughtfulness. What could be more fulfilling?

To get your creative juices flowing, here's one idea using common items that you can customize to suit your taste:

* small cleanser or soap bottle

*hand lotion

* little mints

* travel size shampoo

* travel size conditioner

* Burt's Bees lip conditioner

* lip gloss

* dental floss

* take out boxes (almost every craft store sells these)

* stickers

Decorate the outside of the carry-out box with stickers and place the other items into the box. Voila! You've got practical, thoughtful baby favors perfect for your guests' next trip.

Now, in case you want something a little more environmentally friendly, how about some nice house plants? Just put some herbs or other easily-maintained plant in some inexpensive pots and you've made a wonderful favor that will remind your guests for a long time to come about your bash!
