Working From Home?

By Jessica Franks

Jessie, 28, finds herself in a bind again, pulled between work and home, as she struggles to separate herself from her crying child before rushing off to another busy commute. \"I wish I could just stay home and work my own schedule, be my own boss.\"

Does that sound familiar? There are options! Everyday you surf the
Internet and glance at ads claiming we can make hundreds
from home. Some of them even say thousands! Now, that sounds like a dream. Is it too good to be true?

Well it depends, do you have $150 to start-up? $150 to give to
complete strangers in the Internet full of online scams? Or perhaps
you found a site that doesn't need a start-up, unfortunately many
require 30 hours taking surveys. Even if that isn't an elaborate
scam for web traffic, the money generated wouldn't be sufficient for
all your living expenses.

So what are the options? Well, familiar ones, and if you have
experience with sales, you may reach success. Basically you sell
products you find online. Granted that requires a shop-front and a
client-list, but many have found success setting up shop, and
focusing on their local area and their needs. Everything from
make-up to marital aids, to cooking gadgets can be found online for
resale.

So how much money does selling products actually pay? Well this depends on many factors, things like a store-front and your own dedication are major. If you are good at sales, and you were to bring them to a sales-floor, you could make anything from $30 to $200 a show. That's not necessarily enough for rent, but it can be vacation money.

If you look at things more realistically, it's easy to see that you \"make\" more money, by cutting back on expenses. Cut down on a car you don't really need, and you've made yourself $300-500 a month! Taking a break from going out to eat could earn you another couple hundred dollars a month. But let's not forget all the expenses involved with work and traveling to work, and that child care bill! But how could you cut back on that expense?

Have a seat with your loved one and grab a calculator. Believe it or not, you could \"earn\" just as much money staying at home and cutting out all the unnecessary expenditures. You could be at home with your child, but you have to sacrifice all those lunches and dinners out, you have to start cutting back on extras. And think about this, having one income may put you in a lower tax bracket, making you eligible for more benefits!

In the end, it's your decision, is it worth all that money to leave your children behind all day? It may make them independent, but it may also make them strangers. All in all, each person has to decide what's best for them and their family. Most working families could save hundreds of dollars a month if they really only wanted to make the proper sacrifices.
