Having a Successful Job Interview.

By Ray James

Being a success in the interview is crucial in order to be in the running for the job. Before interview questions are considered, there are definite aspects for which you should be organised and prepared such as company research, memorising details of your resume, practising appropriate interview behaviour, appropriate attire and practising concluding the interview with a heart felt thank you.

These questions should be part of your overall guide to surviving an interview successfully. They will provide you with the key to mastery of any interview within a short period of time and introduce you to the necessities of superior answering skills, an appropriate carriage, the ability to exude confidence and a calm attitude. These will allow you to stand out from the crowd. There are number of questions often asked by interviewers in an attempt to "weed out" the lesser candidates and these may discourage you: being aware of them will prevent you from falling into this trap.

The top job interview questions are as follows: > What do you consider to be your weaknesses? > Why should I hire you and not someone else? > Why you wish to work in our company? > What are your career goals? > What was behind your decision to leave your previous job? > What did you find was the most satisfying aspect of your last job? > What are the three positive comments your last supervisor would have regarding you? > What can you do for us that other candidates cannot? > What do you expect by way of salary? > If you were an animal, which one would you want to be and why?

Besides these questions there are a few more questions which are considered equally important. > How long are you planning on remaining with our company? > Where do you see yourself in five years time? > Why did you choose to complete this area of study? > How do you occupy yourself in your spare time? > Are there other jobs that you are considering?

Your objective is to convince the employer that you have the required skills, background and ability to perform the job and that you are able to comfortably fit into the organization. An understanding that it is not simply a candidate's merit that guarantees them a job offer will put you in to the correct mind set for the interview. An interview is a highly subjective encounter in which the best person according to the interviewer is chosen. Traits such as an amiable personality, confidence, enthusiasm, a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills along with first rate communication are extremely important deciding factors in any interview.

You should take the time to prepare answers to these questions but don't memorize them to the point where you reply parrot fashion. Have a summarized script ready but there is no need to remember the answers by heart. Once you are prepared for them, questions are nothing to be scared about. You will have a good interview if you are prepared and try your very best.
