Do You Know Where Your Dog Has Been?

By Jonethan Bass

Today people tend to keep their dogs on a leash or inside of a fence when letting their dogs outside. Previously dog owners often let their dogs run free and they weren't considered to be breaking an ownership rule like they are today.

You see it every week on those TV Judge shows that pander to the public's thirst for gossip. Sometimes it seems like every other day there's a case that involves someone who let their dog out unsupervised and it either got hurt or someone else did. All of those cases end the same way too. If the dog wasn't on a leash or otherwise restrained and under the full control of the owner at all times they're going to lose the case.

Dog owners can only win these kind of cases when the dog was accidentally released or another dog was in on it and instigated the trouble.

This is why obedience training is so important - it's otherwise a price to be paid (found in the fine print of dog ownership).

Unfortunately this is a common occurrence in today's world. If you don't have full authority over your dog, you can be affected by the most negative outcome possible.

Despite the costs you may incur, it is worth it to keep your dog in both a cage or fence as well as on a cord. No matter what the expense of it is, it money well spent because you are saving your dog or somebody else.

I remember one case where a small boy was bit by a dog and the dog's owners had no liability. The dog was on a line and inside a fence. The boy climbed the fence and taunted the dog (a Chow Chow). As soon as the parents determined the dog's shots were up to date they accepted full responsibility for their son.

That's just one case where keeping a dog under control saved everyone a lot of grief.
